Text message reminders

Last updated: 20 July 2026

When you’re dealing with a parking charge or court claim, deadlines matter. TheLegalAid can send you free text message reminders so important dates don’t creep up on you.

How it works

We check your deadlines every morning. Each day at around 9am, we look at the deadlines on your active cases.

You’ll hear from us when a date is getting close. We’ll text you when a deadline is approaching, again the day before it’s due, and if it has just passed. Once a deadline is more than a few days behind you, we stop — no nagging about old dates.

One reminder per milestone, never spam. Each deadline triggers at most one message per stage. You might get a heads-up during the week and a nudge the day before — you’ll never get the same reminder twice.

Short and private by design. Our texts include your first name, the deadline’s name, and a link to log in — nothing else. We deliberately keep case details out of text messages, because SMS isn’t a private channel.

Setting it up

Reminders are sent to the mobile number on your account. You can add, change, or remove your number at any time in your account settings — removing it switches reminders off completely. Messages are free from us; your network’s standard rates may apply.

The important bit

Text reminders are a safety net, not a substitute for managing your case. Messages can occasionally be delayed or fail to arrive for reasons outside our control — network coverage, carrier filtering, an out-of-date number. Your deadlines remain your responsibility, and the dates shown in your case dashboard are always the authoritative source. Please don’t rely solely on a text arriving.

We only send deadline reminders — we’ll never use your number for marketing.
